Guide To Law's For Shipping Wine
In South Carolina

A Special Order Proviso has been implemented in South Carolina. Any wine produced outside the State of South Carolina which has not been approved or licensed for sale or distribution in South Carolina may be sold by a South Carolina wholesaler who has placed a special order for this particular wine with the out-of-state winery. The wine may then be shipped by the winery to the wholesaler who, after paying the necessary state taxes, is authorized to sell the wine at retail, either inside or outside the state. Importation from abroad or another state of up to 10 cases permissible if taxes paid and certificate obtained from the South Carolina Tax Commission, Box 125, Columbia 29214. Individual may bring in up to one gallon in personal baggage. (¶¶7101, 1710.52 Atty. Gen. Opinion 1944, 7432B) (S.C.S. §12-21-1610).
